Why I built BorderPaw

I spent my career making sure numbers and rules were exactly right. As an Audit Manager at PwC, my job was to examine companies' financials against the strictest standards — IFRS, US GAAP, French GAAP — catch the errors others missed, and fix the processes that let those errors happen. I then moved into private equity at Mutares, working hands-on inside companies to turn them around, where a single overlooked detail can cost millions.

So when I saw how people move their pets across borders, it drove me crazy. The rules are exact, dated, and unforgiving — a titer test drawn one day too early, a vaccine given before a microchip — and yet people were piecing their answers together from outdated forum posts and contradictory blogs, risking their pet being turned back at a border or held in quarantine.

This is the exact problem I spent my career solving in finance: take a complex, high-stakes set of rules, verify every one against its official source, and give people a clear, correct answer they can act on. That's what BorderPaw is. Every rule is traced to its primary official source — USDA APHIS, the CDC, each destination's authority — and dated. Because in compliance, "probably right" isn't good enough. Not for a financial statement, and not for your dog.
